For my community service hours i stayed back at school on thursday and had a group discussion with 2 reprasentatives from Sydney alliances. It was good.

ReplyDeleteLast thursday the leaders of year 10 stayed back after school to attend a lecture about 'sydney alliance' for our community service. This was a great experience for us because it taught all of us how to be leaders for the future. I can't wait until september 15th for the actual discussion with the community.

ReplyDeleteI helped the elderly men and women because l noticed that their gardern/lawn needed cleaning up, because these people were unable to physically move around much.

ReplyDeletethis community service benefits the people who i have helped as it relieves them of the stress of worrying how they are able to complete the task and it allows them to save there money as they dont have to pay for people to complete the task. It allows them to relax.

ReplyDeleteOn Thursday 25th of August i had the privelige of attending training hosted by Carl and David of the Sydney Alliance with fellow students of Year 10. They gave us tips on how to improve our leadership skills and techniques to use when you are leading. This training is for a big conference scheduled for September 15th where we will discuss our cities future with over 2000 other people. This will benefit the community as we will be having a say in what we want for Sydney.

ReplyDeleteFor my community service I went to the courts where I play Tennis at and helped with coaching. I did this because one of the other coaches broke their arm and needed assistance. I enjoyed this experience as I am usually on the other side of the net being trained! Nicholas Monhem

ReplyDeleteFor my year 10 community service I help out my elderly neighbour who has Cardio Vascular problems. I helped the elderly neighbour out with mowing his lawn, turning over soil in his vegetable garden and cutting back some trees. I am proud of what I have accomplished in helping my elderly neighbour.

ReplyDeleteAlex, helping the elderly people with everyday chores is a great way of showing support to people that are a valuable part of our society.
ReplyDeleteFor my year 10 community service I was involved with working with the elderly and people with a mental illness or intellectual disability. I helped in many different ways like assisting them with life skills and socialising with them through various activities. It was a fantastic experience.
ReplyDeleteDuring my many hours of volunteer work at the nursing home I got to spend some time with interesting people who spoke about their lives before entering the nursing home. Playing bingo, reading to groups, talking to the elderly, showing them simple household duties like setting the table was one of the many social/skill based activities that I was involved in.
ReplyDeleteMy next door neighbour was renovating his house over the past two weeks and I decided to help him as part of my community cervice. I spent two saturdays there and during that time we painted the inside walls of his house, we did some gardening and we had to clean out his shed (it was not a pleasent experience). overall we got a lot of work done and we also had a few laughs here and there.

ReplyDeleteI started my community service hours early and tried to get them done first so I would have time for other assessments. I did them at a St Vincent de Paul second had store. While doing my time there, I found that the feeling you get from working for the unfortunate is the same feeling you get from any work, only greater. The feeling that you are actually helping people keeps you from tiredness and impatience.
ReplyDeleteA major impression that stuck with me now that I look back to my time there was that a variety of things end up In a second hand store. Some of the things I found were: a school uniform (seemingly) a drawer organiser, a strange backscrubber, very, very, very old games, and a childhood toy of mine. The problem is that although many people buy, there is still not enough and the store was simply filled with odd stuff – mostly clothing. So although I successfully helped in their operations, true success comes from public contribution buying the perfectly fine goods sold

ReplyDeleteThe Main thing I learnt from my community service is that good deeds really make a difference to our community. ever since i helped my neighbour, the relationship between us has grown and he really appriciated my work. If every one had a positive contribution to their society most social justice issues would be solved.

ReplyDeleteFor my community service, i have been helping a lady in my street with a broken leg. just completing the easiest of task around the house, that for me personally i see as nothing, we can take for granted. What i can do to help her in any way shape or form i have been. last weekend i went and did her shopping :) only got a hour or 2 to go :)

ReplyDeleteFor the remainder of my community service time, I continued with tennis coaching. Every time I coached I learned new skills and other coaching techniques, which I believe benefited the students I taught a lot more than when I started.

Referring to John A's comment it is good to see that you are helping elderly people and people with mental disabilities and that you taught the m life skills and socialised with them and im sure that they would be very thankful of your presence their on that day.
ReplyDeleteFor my community service i helped the Junction Works. I did it with 6 other friends and we worked on the gardening for the Tallowood Community Center. The majority of the time we spent either digging, mowing or weeding the garden. We did these things in particular because the people who volunteer previously were to elderly to do any of the hard labor.

i participated in gardening at an elderly couples house, i also went to council grounds with a member of the council and unlocked them for teams participating in sport that day, i checked to make sure sure there was nothing wrong there and there was no vandalism, we took photos if there was any damages, later today i will be participating in some gardening for a single mother

ReplyDeleteThese past few weeks i have helped my coach in coaching little kids who want to learn about tennis and hit with his younger students to give them a good training session. I helped in this because i enjoy making people better at something.

ReplyDeleteOn Wednesday this week i helped coach my coaches accountant. He wasn't very good but good enough to play with and to enjoy the sport with. It was a good hour to help teach him about tennis.

On Thursday 25th August, along with some other selected Year 10 boys, I attended training with two hosts named David and Carl who are representatives of the Sydney Alliance. They gave us ideas on how to improve our leadership skills, which was a great insight to what it means to be a leader. This was a training session, which leads up to a big conference to be held on 15th September.

ReplyDeleteOn the 10th of September 2011 me and 6 other friends attended the community volunteer event for JunctionWorks, We did hard labour work ( digging dirt, planting various plants, painting, construction of a compost area and cooking bbq ). This was all done to help and improve the community by showing support.

ReplyDelete10 fellow future leaders and I attended the Sydney Alliance education training at Holy Cross. Our training was in preparation for the upcoming Sydney Alliance Foundation Meeting. Our trainers, David and Carl, Taught us how to better communicate in our local community and how to effectively gage our communities opinions to put them into action.
I will use this training to help my community to fix issues that arise and to merge the community to work as a whole. I can now help to give people in my community the right to freedom of speech.

I am very much looking forward to the conference on Thursday, here we will combine with over 2,000 other leaders and communicate our ideas for a better future for Sydney. This will provide an advantage to the community, as we will be having a say in what we want done for Sydney’s future.
ReplyDeleteFor my community service, I worked for an organisation called Junction Works. It is basically a community centre. I worked with 6 other friends at Tallowood and our role was to mow, weed and move soil to benefit the community who need it most. I enjoyed it thoroughly and hope to do it again.

For my Community service me and 6 other friends went to tallawood community centre with junction works.we were told to mow the lawns plant new soil for plants replace old mulch and me and Aiden Mcintyre cooked a barbeque for the whole of the community centre. ReplyDeleteFor the Majority of the Community Service i was digging with Daniel and Liam. We were shoveling soil into a wheel burrow and Zeya and Patrick moved it to the Garden bed where Aiden and Derek spread the soil along the garden bed. Everyone was chipping in to help the community centre.

ReplyDeleteon the 11 of september a group of Holy Cross men including myself, attended the ryde rivers festival. We dressed up as stars to promote healthy activities in young children, this community service helped me to help my community from the young to old.

For my community service I helped the elderly women because her lawn was long and overgrown as she was not able to mow it because she is not able to move. When I finished she thanked me and It felt good to something for someone and not ask for anything in return.

ReplyDeleteI have learnt a lot from my community service, but the main things that I have learnt is that doing good deeds for no repayment makes our community grown even further. If everyone is able to their part offering in each communities, then most social justice issues may be solved.

For my community service I helped make small boxes to store homemade cakes to be sold at a festival to help a local swim club travel to Hawaii.

ReplyDeleteFor my community service, Me and two friends, help out our local hockey club and concreted and paved two areas. It felt good to help the club in a good way. The areas are now smooth for people to walk and drive on.

ReplyDeleteLast week I help a local photographer out at a swim meet. My main job was to upload the photos he took onto the computer. It felt rewarding and satisfying to help out someone else, and I could tell he was very appreciative.

for my community service i helped out my neighbour with his garden. he's an old man so he needed someone to help him, so i offered to do it. i got rid of the weeds and planted new flowers that he really liked. this was a great opportunity for me to help someone for nothing return and it was a good feeling :)

ReplyDeleteFor my Community Service i helped my neighbour with cleaning and moving all his furniture on a moving truck as he is starting to build a new house. he asked for my help as there was a lot of furniture. it was actually fun helping people with nothing in return.
ReplyDeletewith my remaining 3 hours my neighbour came back to my house and asked me for help to take apart his awning as no longer needs and has currently sold it. it was hard work but for filling that i did it.
ReplyDeleteFor the first part of my community service I attend the Ryde Rivers Festival along with Andrew HIll. Our goal was to get kids fit and active, to achieve this we dressed up as stars. Taking photos and advertising Andrew's organisation. It was a successful day, giving me the satisfaction of helping others in the local community and influencing the health of our future generation.

The community service involved helping with whatever needed to be done around the house, including gardening, sweeping and other household chores. It was a successful experience, allowing me to help another community member and gave me a lot of personal satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteon thursday 15th september i completed my second part of my community service, which was attending a sydney alliance meeting. this meeting gave all of us an insight of what some people have to suffer with everyday and what we have to do to fix this. i'm glad that i attended this meeting because it opened my eyes to the problems in our community and how we can all fix it together

ReplyDeletethey had given me and some other boys some great information on leadership and helping the community. the people that talked were a really nice bunch of guys that gave us some real eye opening stories
for the rest of my completed hours i had gone to sydney alliance seminar in town hall on the 15/9 it was an amazing atmosphere so many people were there to create peace with all communities. there were really moving stories and some really great speeches. overall i enjoyed it an dwouldsnt mind doing it again.

For the second part of my community service me and a 10 other year students went with Miss Danos to the Sydney Alliance Foudning Assesmbly at Town Hall. There was 2000 people from over 40 different community groups around the sydney area to out near Penrith. The night was to raise issue's that faced sydney from various different community. We were part of the Catholic Archdioces of Sydney. Some of the issues raised were transport , social inclusion and community care and health. The night was a great success with goals being set by the alliance and community groups being accomplished

ReplyDeleteOn thursday 15th september, myself alongside 10 other students and Ms Danos, participated in the sydney alliance foundation meeting at town hall. Representing the school and the catholic schools of the sydney archdiocese at this assembly was a great honor and to do so alongside approximately 2000 people was an amazing experience. Issues raised in the assembly were issues concerning sydney and its future. Some of the issues raised were transportation, social inclusion and community care and health.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great night and the sydney alliance assembly was a huge success and i am glad i attended and saw how a community of people can come together and agreed to the issues so cooperatively.
Glad to hear that everyone enjoyed there time and learnt something new and exciting which you can now take back from this experience. Im sure all of your good deeds are greatly appreciated, well done boys!

ReplyDeletefor my community service i helped out with my neighbors' pets. One of them recently broke his ankle and couldn't take care of his dog so i walked it for him. another neighbor is elderly and couldnt take his dog out for a run as he isnt very mobile and can't take him out as often as the dog needs to be taken out.
ReplyDeleteI also briefly house sat a family friends house while they were away, which meant going over and feeding their cat, watering their garden and locking up
its good to hear that everyone is happily completing their hours and feeling really good about lending a hand to people who aren't as mobile as they used to be and making this community a better place for everyone

ReplyDeleteon the 7th of august i went down to the buffalo creek bike track and planted some trees with some other volunteers from the community. this was a huge success as we got through about 30 new plants in a matter of 2 hours. it really changed the feeling of the park and livened it up alot.
ReplyDeleteon the 4th of september i went back down to the buffalo bike track and rebuilt some natural retaining walls. it was a huge success as the plants that were previously planted look more structured.
ReplyDeleteFor the second and final part of my community service, ten other Year 10 students and myself went with Miss Danos to the Sydney Alliance Founding Assembly at Town Hall on 15th September. There were over 2000 other leaders attending and 46 non-governed organisations, spreading all the way out to Penrith.
ReplyDeleteThe whole purpose of the night was to raise issues that faced Sydney from various communities. The issues raised included transport, social inclusion and health care. I felt very privileged to be part of this night along with 2000 other leaders.
to all those people who helped out the elderly i hope that you feel great satisfaction as they are barely able to do the necessity's in day to day life.

ReplyDelete11 future leaders, including my self, attended the Sydney Alliance Education training at Holy Cross College Ryde. The training was to help prepare us for the upcoming Sydney Alliance Foundation Meeting. Carl and David, our trainers, taught that we can become better leaders in our society by effectively communicating and sharing the ideals of our community.
ReplyDeleteThrough the teachings of Carl and David, I have learnt how to be a positive influence in my community and can now give people in my community the ability to pressure change for the better. I have also learnt that if we were to act together as one commune, then we could accomplish a lot more then we could individually.
The 10 future leaders, Mrs. Danos and myself attended the Sydney Alliance Meeting that took place at Town Hall on the 15th of September. When we arrived, I was amazed at the sight; over 2000 other leaders of our community were present at the conference. Each of these individuals represented a total of 44 non-government organisations that have devoted their lives into improving Sydney.
ReplyDeleteMy colleagues and I represented the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, which was only one of the many organisations that formed the conference. During the meeting, key points were addressed, such as better transport for Sydney, better conditions for youth and racial discrimination. It was truly an honour to have represented my school in an event as significant as the Sydney Alliance Conference.
For community service I went to a training centre to help train kids. It was a good experience and i learnt how to communicate well with others around me.
ReplyDeletewith the help of 6 friends, I went to a community centre for the JunctionWorks, to clean the place up and make it look good as new. The community service was fun because I went with friends on the day, but benefits all of us individually.

ReplyDelete10 other students, Ms Danos and I attended the Sydney Alliance conference at town hall. We were representing the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney. With us were 2000 other leaders of our community who represented 46 non-government organisations. The community banded together to achieve goals such as better transport and youth condition along with many more. It felt good to be representing my community to make Sydney a better place.
On the 15th of September, I attended the founding assembly for the Sydney Alliance at town hall with Ms Danos, Mr Taylor, some fellow schoolmates. The aim of the Sydney Alliance is to shape the future of Sydney the way the people of Sydney want it to be. Over 1000 people attended this event. This was a very rewarding experience as it highlighted the issue of Social Justice in our own areas and we learnt that many people have the same desire for change.

ReplyDeleteFor the rest of my community service i umpire junior hockey. It felt good to help the community.
ReplyDeleteThis morning i completed my last couple of hours, washing and detailing the persons' car that i have been helping of my community service period. What a day to complete these hours and to wash a car in this beautiful weather, i hope that all of you guys enjoyed the experience as much as I did

I Just FInished My Community Service I helped an elderly women who has being sick. I helped with chores around her house and I enjoyed and learnt from this.

ReplyDeleteYesterday I helped an elderly neighbour with trees that were too long for his liking and i also cut his lawn. He was very thankful for the services that i provided
ReplyDeleteOn friday i helped a family friend by looking after there children in the afternoon. The parents where then able to attend a fundraising dinner and have some time away from the kids. When the parents returned home and they were thankful and they offered money but i rejected it. It felt good to do something for others and not ask for anything in return.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I helped at my local footy clubs bbq helping serve on the barbie and also setting up the area for the food.
ReplyDeleteI helped out at TV stars with some others from our school to promote the ryde rivers festival for next year i thoroughly enjoyed it and it was lots of fun

on the 15 of this month myself and 10 other year ten boys went to the sydney alliance founding assembly at town hall to see the people of sydney come together and have there say about what happens. this was a great thing to attened and be a part of the sydney alliance
ReplyDeleteOn saturday, i helped my friend move into his new home. There were loads of things to carry and we also had to make the old house look brand new so that it could be sold again.
